Our Team
Olalla Ramirez （Team Leader）
Olalla is a master’s student in Neuroscience and a graduate in Biomedical Sciences. She has always been passionate about neurobiology and its relationship with psychology, but she is also interested in joining different fields in a synergistic and translational way, increasing the effectiveness of research. Beyond science, she likes music and playing the cello. But her greatest passion is scuba diving and the wonderful life that exists under water.
Pau Marín (Team Leader)
Pau has recently finished his MSc in Advanced Immunology. His principal interest lies within autoimmunity and the modification of the immune tolerance, in which he has been fortunately working on the development of his master thesis. However, he is also highly appealed by other fields in the scientific panoply such as genetics and synthetic biology. He loves spending his spare time reading, playing the guitar and hiking
Arnau Vila (Team Member)
Arnau is currently studying the second year of Biomedical Sciences. For years he has been very curious about diseases, especially those that seem forgotten, and like any disease, should also be investigated to find a cure. Aside from science, he likes music and plays percussion. He also enjoys travelling and discovering new places.
Júlia Sánchez (Team Member)
Júlia is a fourth year student of Biomedical Sciences. She is currently an exchange student at both Sorbonne Université and Institut Pasteur in Paris. Her fields of interest are mainly developmental biology, cancer biology and genetics. She is passionate about science outreach and scientific communication and in her free time she enjoys reading, travelling and outdoor activities.
Arnau Llambrich (Team Member)
Arnau is currently studying his last course of Pharmacy, and he is specialised in Industry and Research. He is interested in many fields of his career, from R+D in neurodegenerative diseases’ physiopathology to galenic formulation and its most commercial branch, in which he always tries to find new opportunities to improve personally and professionally. Beyond science, he loves reading and educating himself in new artistic disciplines.
Alicia Invernón (Team Member)
Alicia is studying two degrees at the same time, both at the University of Barcelona: Biology and Biotechnology. She is currently in her last year of degree and she can't wait to start her career in research! Nature and plants are her thing, and you will always find her with a good book in her hands.
David Carrillo (Team Member)
David is a fifth year student of the Bachelor's Degree in Medicine. Since 2020, he has been undertaking both curricular and extracurricular internships at several hospitals of the Catalan health system. Currently, he is finishing his gastroenterology, hepatology and general surgery clinical practices. He has an holistic approach towards medicine, and he is interested in laboratory, clinical and surgical specialties.
Neus Muntó (Team Member)
Neus is a fourth year biotechnology student. She considers herself as a multifaceted person. She is interested in many different areas of knowledge such as philosophy, physics, economics, sociology, and holistic approaches of science. Nonetheless, biology is what she enjoys most, especially when it can be applied to the development of products which can provide value and progress to society. Apart from that, she really enjoys meeting new people and travelling.
Jaume Ros (Team Member)
Jaume is currently studying his second year of his Bachelor's degree in Biomedical Sciences. He is an affiliate of many non-profit organisations and committees which promote passion in research among youth. His scientific interests are mainly focused towards cancer immunology and medical research. Besides science, he is very into sports, having won various tennis tournaments and waterpolo championships.
Eva Arribas (Team Member)
Eva is a fourth year biotechnology student. She is very interested in the fields of genetic engineering, transgenesis and industrial microbiology, among others. She thinks synthetic biology is a very appealing subject which can help us in different clinical cases, or to improve production yields in a sustainable way. Beyond science, she enjoys mountain hiking, reading and travelling.
Mar Cabello (Team Member)
Mar is a fourth course student from the Bachelor's Degree in Biotechnology and she is very interested in biomedical research. Apart from science, she loves cooking and travelling.
Claudia de Campos (Team Member)
Claudia is currently studying the fourth year of the Bachelor’s degree in Biomedical Science. She is interested in a wide range of fields such as immunology, cancer, metabolism and regeneration. After her degree she’d love to study her MSc abroad with the aim of nurturing herself and learning from new perspectives. Beyond science she loves music and plays the electric bass in her free time.
Claudia Gómez-Pastrana (Team Member)
Claudia is currently studying a bachelor's degree in Biomedical Sciences. Her interest in the determinants of health and illness has grown over the years, so she couldn't resist being part of this great project. She spends most of her spare time listening to songs from different artists. She also enjoys doing volunteer work, and photography.
Daniel Saenz (Team Member)
Daniel is also a graduate in Biomedical Sciences. He did his Bachelor's final project in the Institut Pasteur, in Paris, studying the effect of the immune system in brain function and development. He is interested in many fields of biology such as virology, immunity, and metabolism, fields in which he will specialise with the MSc in translational medicine. Beyond science, he loves travelling and meeting new peoples and culture.
Alejandro Madrid (Team Member)
Alejandro is in his second year of a Bioinformatics Master after having studied Biochemistry and Biomedical Sciences. He has always been interested in physics and mathematics as well. Alejandro thinks that the best way to understand life is using holistic approaches, that is why he tries to acquire knowledge of different fields of science.
Àlex Bedmar (Team Member)
Àlex has just finished the bachelor Bioinformatics. He developed his final degree project in IDIBAPS, where he studied the effects of radon gas on lung cancer and where he is actually working as a bioinformatician. He is interested in genomics, data analysis and biotechnology. Besides this, he also enjoys spending time with friends and playing music.
Our PIs
Manuel Reina （PI）
Manuel is the PI of the Cellular and Molecular Bases in Neurodegeneration and Neuroregeneration group from the University of Barcelona. He is also secretary of the Department of Cell Biology of the UB, Member of the Student Council of the Biochemistry and Biotechnology Degrees, and professor of several undergraduate and master's degree subjects.
From the very beginning he was willing to help and advise us both academically and administratively. His trust and support during the first steps were crucial for the development of the project.
Gaël Roué (Secondary PI)
Gaël got his PhD degree at the University of Caen (France) and worked as a postdoctoral associate at Pasteur Institute (Paris, France). Actually, he leads the Lymphoma Translational Group at the Josep Carreras Leukemia Research Institute (IJC) in Barcelona, with a special focus on oncogenic signaling, B-cell receptor pathway and the role of intrinsic protein homeostasis in the control of lymphoma-stroma crosstalk.
From the very beginning, Gaël supported our project idea, Vesiprod. He saw the viability of our idea and the interest behind it. Working in his group has been a great experience, where we all have learned a lot and have felt at home.
