Inefficient use of resources in Agriculture
Lack of important data and analysis regarding soil's physical and chemical properties especially in large and isolated areas.
Inefficient use of available resources results in low quality of the crops and not the best possible yield.

PAGGAIA
The goal of the PAGGAIA project is to make a positive environmental impact by reducing the use of fertilizers and seeking the best possible yield, while modernizing the practice of Agriculture, in an innovative, bio-sustainable and consumer-friendly manner. This is accomplished by creating a protocol that includes genomic, physicochemical, and agronomic characteristics, using soil-sampling drones, portable DNA sequencing, and innovative analysis through the advancements of Machine Learning to propose tailor-made interventions to farmers and specialists.
Portable Sequencing
Portable sequencing is reshaping agriculture and is making it possible for researchers to perform real-time sequence analysis anywhere in the world.
Machine Learning
Machine learning is used to process and analyze the data with the aim of proposing methods which improve the conditions of the soil in a given field.
Human Practices
Participating in the iGEM competition is a great way for young scientists to test their limits, try to develop new ideas and innovative concepts and work as a team to achieve their goals. For the successful development and application of each project, the main pillar is the investigation of its possibilities and limitations with the compass of the responsible and correct implementation that will be beneficial for the world. The task of this interaction between the project and society is an important responsibility of Human Practices, therefore it has been an integral part of our team's project from the beginning and in all its stages of formation.
