Collaborations

University of Lethbridge

The University of Lethbridge Team share the same space as the Lethbridge HS Team: Synbridge, a synthetic biology makers' space that encourages motivated researchers to work on genetically engineered machines. Apart from sharing a lab, the university team has also taught many of us coding. Over the past two years, they have hosted “Wiki Workshops” for us to learn how to code using HTML and continue to provide us with guidance on how to make our wikis presentable. During these Wiki Workshops, one of the team's leaders, Fabian Rohden, go through HTML, presentation, and criteria for making standard wikis.

University of Manitoba

A collaboration with the University of Manitoba iGEM Team was made by initially exchanging feedback on our projects. We had an online zoom meeting with members of both our teams to discuss each other's project designs, ask questions, and share resources! It was an amazing opportunity to introduce ourselves to each other and opened a door for further collaboration with wet lab work. After our meeting and later lab work, our team sent samples from our RNA to have them repeat fluorescent experiments to confirm our results. Here's a photo of our meeting over Zoom!

Goettingen

Over the summer, our team was able to contact the Goettingen iGEM team in Germany. One of our team members was able to meet the team at their university for a lab tour and to discuss our projects. It was a great way to learn about another project, including the necessary lab work to complete the project, and to gain some international connections!

Synbridge STEM Skills Workshop

On April 2nd - 3rd, the University of Lethbridge's Synbridge and our own team advisor, Laura Keffer-WIlkes hosted an in-person STEM Skills workshop at the University of Lethbridge! Our team, the Lethbridge University team, the Canmore Collegiate High School (CCHS) Synbio iGEM Team, Renert iGEM, and the University of Calgary team all participated in the workshop. Participants were taught various STEM skills in University facilities such as pipetting and other basic wet lab techniques, wiki coding (Where our very own Zitong and Karma won an award for wiki coding), and ethics in science. It was amazing for our team to get the opportunity to talk to other teams in person and learn about their projects!
